Weedsport's "Fossil Fragments" Earns 2nd Place at First Lego League Challenge

Cayuga BOCES hosted the First Lego League Challenge on Saturday. Weedsport’s team “Fossil Fragments” finished in second place. This year was an archaeological theme, “Unearthed,” where teams used their creativity to dig deeper than ever and solve problems for archaeologists. There was a lot of research and planning beforehand, then they designed and built robots to accommodate their strategy in the actual competition.
Because Fossil Fragments earned 2nd place, meaning they are heading to states. But they also earned the Core Values Award!
The Core Values Award celebrates a team that displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and shows each other and other teams respect at all times.
Judges said: “This award is going to a team that demonstrated extensive research, allowing them to clearly define their problem and develop an impactful solution. They persevered even after many attempts to contact multiple professionals in the field. They used encouraging language to elevate all voices during the presentation, and used a voting system to ensure all ideas came through in their final project.”
