Weedsport students travel with veterans to Washington, D.C. for Honor Flight

Two Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School students had the opportunity to travel with veterans to Washington, D.C. on board the 18th Honor Flight mission from Syracuse airport.

Five Weedsport students volunteered to help with jobs at the airport before the Saturday, April 22nd flight, while two students travelled with the veterans to the nation’s capital. Seniors Robert Chirco and Morgan Flask were both able to travel with the veterans. Senior Makayla Foltz, and juniors Brayden Mitchell and Lexi Docteur helped before the flight, but did not travel with the group.

In total, 81 veterans were on board, including one World War II veteran, and more than 50 Vietnam veterans. Weedsport sophomores, juniors and seniors all wrote letters to every veteran thanking them for their service.

The letters were gratefully received by the veterans, as the students’ efforts really meant a great deal,” said teacher and organizer Theresa Leonardi.
