Weedsport CSD Celebrates the Opening of New Turf/Track Facility

And the crowd goes wild! The grand opening of Weedsport Central District’s new turf/track facility took place on September 16. This highly anticipated milestone was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by the District’s first game played on the new turf field.

On Saturday morning, Weedsport CSD Superintendent Shaun O’Connor stood proudly beside student athletes, Board of Education members, staff, and a representative from the C&S construction management firm to express a message of pride and resilience, adding, “This facility honors the gloried tradition of the Weedsport sports program and should serve as a calling card in promoting the continuation of our exemplary program.”

The new turf/track facility was completed as part of the District’s $7.6 million capital project, which also includes improvements to the high school’s performing arts area and Elementary School gymnasium, as well as new bleachers and press box to accompany the field.

Following the ribbon-cutting, Weedsport’s girls field hockey team played their first match on the turf against Moravia, as part of the District’s 12th annual Drive Away Cancer game. Honoring former Weedsport/Nazareth College field hockey player Mya Maloof and all families touched by cancer, this tradition aims to provide support and instill hope. All donations are used to help the Maloof family in addition to the Upstate Cancer Center and Golisano Children’s Hospital.
