May 1 Update: School closed remainder of academic year

To the Weedsport Community,

On May 1, Gov. Cuomo announced schools will remain closed for rest of academic year due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health situation. While I’m sure this leads to feelings of disappointment from our staff and students – especially our seniors – I want to assure you that districts leaders will continue to formulate plans for graduation and other events moving forward.

I know many of you may have questions, but will we be updating our website and communicating with our school community constantly throughout the end of the year and into the summer.

Spring sports and many other events have been cancelled, but we will do our best to honor our graduating seniors and continue to foster a sense of community here at Weedsport.

Although we do have feelings of disappointment, we will just continue doing what we have been doing the past six weeks. We will continue to provide meals to children and assist with technology needs for students and parents who are in need of remote instruction support. Distance learning will continue as planned and any changes or updates will be communicated to our public as soon as there are any.

During this time, I ask students and parents to remain focused on their health and safety while also trying to remain actively engaged in the learning process.

We are all in this together and although it this may be lasting longer that we expected, we will endure, persevere and come out better for it.

Thank you,

Shaun A. O’Connor
Superintendent of Schools
