Fall 2022 sports team previews

Boys Cross Country

The Weedsport boys cross country team arrives this fall with aspirations of improving upon last year’s record. Welcoming a few newcomers to the sport this year, the team returns two solid leaders in seniors Sam Holden and Ryan Dates. The boys kicked off the season on September 7th at Cato High School. Please come out and support this spirited and hardworking group of runners as they look to make some noise within the league.

Girls Cross Country

Last season, the Weedsport girls cross country team captured their first Patriot League Championship in 23 years, effectively dethroning Tully’s longstanding 22-year run. For the 2022 season, the Weedsport girls’ team looks to add to their own legacy within the League, Section, and State. Led by a very young and talented crew, the team returns its top three finishers from last year’s Sectional meet: Zoyee Newton (9th), Lilly Kime (9th), and Olivia Snodgrass (10th). The team’s first matchup was held on September 7th at Cato, kicking off their season with a classic rivalry match.

Field Hockey

The 2022 Varsity field hockey team is excited to begin the 2022 season. While the Warriors did lose a lot of key players to graduation and relocation, we have a strong group of young players who are anxious to see what they can accomplish as a team.

The team will be led by senior co-captains Jenna Guzzo and Lily Komarisky. Seniors Deanna Jackson and Deanna Gilner will lend their support to the team along with juniors Peyton DeMaio, Olivia Quinn and Mackenzie Strong. Sophomores Gabby Jeffers, Keegan McNabb and Ayla Stark will be joined by freshmen Mallory Brown, Kayla Flask and Madelyn Kepple. Finally, 8th Grader Arieanna Giacolone will complete the team.

These 14 warriors are ready to compete this season. Good luck ladies!

Football

The Warriors are looking to defend their league title from 2021. The will be led by Seniors Andrew Seward, Robert Quigley, and Robert Chirco. The team should gain from their experiences last season and will need juniors Jacob Guy, Colin Granbois, and Carter McNabb to play bigger roles this season. The Warriors will look to start the next chapter in Weedsport football history by avenging some close losses from last season. You can expect the Warriors to continue to represent their school, their families, and the community in a positive manner. Go Warriors!
