Congratulations to Weedsport’s January student-athletes of the month

Congratulations to the below student-athletes for being recognized as Weedsport’s January athletes of the month! Take a look at what their coaches had to say about their hard work.

Volleyball – Isabel Guerrette

Isabel Guerrette moved up the career lists in several statistics in Weedsport history. She currently ranks 2nd all-time in career aces, 3rd all-time in career assists, and 4th all-time in career digs. Aside from her statistical accomplishments, Bella’s leadership has played a key role in helping the team to continue to improve and qualify for sectionals.

Girls Basketball – Colleen O’Neil

Colleen’s persistence has helped her steadily improve each day in practice from the preseason through the regular season. That improvement is evidenced by her increased productivity and efficiency in games. Above all, Colleen holds the third-highest GPA in the junior class.

Boys Basketball – Antonio Tortorello

Antonio has been a steady hand off the bench on both ends of the floor. He makes very few mistakes and often provides a smooth touch to our offensive and defensive system. He shot 50% from the field in the month of January and is a valuable chess piece to help the team succeed.

Boys Bowling – Dan Burtless

Dan Burtless has made huge leaps in his game throughout the last month. He started early on by bowling his first 600 three game series against Homer to lead us to a victory against them at home. They are otherwise undefeated this season and a perennial powerhouse. He consistently rolls 200 games at key moments.

Girls Bowling – Abby Bizzozero

Abby Bizzozero has increased her average by a large amount this month and is bowling some of her best matches as the season is closing out. She capped that off with a 196! That’s the highest score bowled by a member of the girls team since the restart 4 years ago.

Swimming & Diving – Brayden Mitchell

Brayden is a very strong force in the pool. He practices with focus and intention, as is reflected in his swims. He is very versatile, and he can compete in any event and perform at a high level. Brayden is a captain this season and has proven to be an amazing leader. He steps up when things need to be done. Swimming is a sport where you need to embrace the work because every day challenges you mentally and physically, it teaches discipline in a way that will carry into your life past the pool. Brayden works hard and he is dedicated to being better. He is most definitely the Student-Athlete of the Month.
