Weedsport high school student tests positive for COVID-19

Weedsport Families,

On Tuesday, April 20th, after students were dismissed for the day, the District was notified by the Cayuga County Health Department of a student at the Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School who had tested positive for COVID-19 and had proximate contact with students during the infectious period. As a result of the County and the school’s investigation, at the moment 16 students are expected to be required to quarantine for 10 days. The Cayuga County Health Department, in collaboration with the District, is advancing towards the final stages of investigating and contacting the students who are required to quarantine. If you are not notified by Thursday, April 22nd, then your child will not have to quarantine as a proximate contact due to this exposure.

The District will remain open for in-person learning at both the Weedsport Elementary School and Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School on Wednesday, April 21st.

We will continue to work closely with the Cayuga County Health Department and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

Thank you, as always, for your support of the Weedsport Central School District.

Respectfully,

Shaun A. O’Connor

Superintendent of Schools
