Three students become first to earn Seal of Biliteracy at Weedsport

Three Weedsport students have become the first in the district to earn a Seal of Biliteracy through the New York State Education Department. Congratulations to Jenna Guzzo and Makayla Foltz for earning their Seal of Biliteracy for French, and Lilyanna Komarisky for earning her Seal of Biliteracy for Spanish.

The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have studied and attained a high proficiency in more than one language by their high school graduation.

On Wednesday, April 26th BOCES held its second annual World Languages Day. There, students presented in their second language in front of a panel of teachers. The presentation tested the student’s interpretive, interpersonal and presentational skills.

Jenna, Makayla, and Lilyanna will now receive a special medallion to wear during graduation. Earning the Seal of Biliteracy is a powerful tool to earn college credit, study abroad, apply for scholarships, and access greater employment opportunities.

Way to go, Warriors!
