Plans are in place for the 2023 Clark-Heck American Legion Post #568 Memorial Day Salute at Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School.
Event set-up will begin at 8 a.m. on Memorial Day: Monday, May, 29. The salute will take place at 9 a.m. sharp at the Jr.-Sr. High School.
Directly following the salute, community members and visitors are encouraged to walk or drive through the displays, exhibits, and performances outside of the high school.
At 9:45 a.m., the Memorial Day ceremonies will begin. Ceremonies will last approximately 25 minutes and will include the Watch Fire Ceremonies.
*If you are involved with Auburn’s parade, please know you will be done in time to participate in that event as well.
Please note: in the event of inclement weather all ceremonies will be held inside the Weedsport Jr-Sr High School Auditorium. This event will be held “rain or shine”.
REFRESHMENTS: Donuts, coffee, OJ, and water will be provided before the parade for our veterans.
RESTROOMS: The Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School building is fully handicapped accessible. Restrooms will be available throughout the event.
WHAT TO BRING: Since the ceremonies will be held outside, please bring a comfortable lawn chair, water, and remember to dress for the weather.
Please bring your worn American flags for proper disposal.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRADITIONAL PARADE?
Simply put, we no longer have the people needed to create the floats and manage the parade. Our goal is to create an event so we are still able to host an appropriate ceremony to honor our veterans; especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
WHY IS THE WATCH FIRE HELD DURING THE MORNING CEREMONY AND NOT IN THE EVENING?
This change is to allow us to continue honoring our nation’s POW/MIA servicemembers, and properly dispose of worn American F]flags, while making it as convenient as possible for our veterans and community members to attend our event.
PARTICIPANTS: We are looking for any individuals or groups who would like to create a patriotic display, exhibit or performance to honor our veterans. If you would like to participate in our Memorial Day salute, please contact us, to reserve a spot for your organization.
