As summer progresses, we want to make sure that we continue to share exciting news and updates as we look ahead to the 2022-23 school year. We will periodically post about student successes ahead of the new school year, so be sure to check back for more fun features.

First, the district would like to congratulate three students who have been selected for scholarship positions with The Rev Theatre’s Summer Musical Theatre Intensive. Jack Hopkins, David Bracy, and Kayla Clark will be bolstering their musical theater skills during this two-week training program, with courses in vocal performance, dance, and acting techniques. All courses are taught by industry professionals from award-winning regional theatres, national tours, and even Broadway shows!

Teachers and staff at Weedsport often encourage students to partake in opportunities such as these, as we look to strengthen student-interest in our district’s music department. Right now, we are working through some changes within the music department relative to staffing levels. This in no way affects the music offerings that will be available to our students in the coming school year. The leadership team is allowing the members of the music department resources and time to develop a comprehensive plan to draw in more student-musicians at all levels, as student-participation has dropped since the onset of the pandemic. Once again, we assure the community that student opportunities will not be impacted while we seek to revitalize our quality music program. Staffing resources fluctuate over time based on student enrollment, needs, and interest, and we are confident that our music offerings will match student interest levels.

There is something else to look forward to just around the corner. Students will be letting their creativity blossom during Art Camp at Weedsport Elementary! This one-week program is back by popular demand, and all spots are full. Beginning July 18th, Mrs. Beerman and Mrs. Fancher will introduce students to various mediums and techniques as they complete multiple projects throughout the week.
