Weedsport field hockey teams raise $7,522 for Drive Away Cancer game

members of the jv and varsity field hockey teams from Weedsport pose with a check. The members of the Weedsport varsity and JV field hockey teams combined to raise $7,522 for the 10th Annual Drive Away Cancer game on Oct. 3 at Weedsport. The total raises Weedsport’s 10-year donation to $34,121.

The teams set a goal of having each player collect $50 in donations to benefit the Upstate Foundation, which helps patients at the Upstate Cancer Treatment Center and the Golisano Children’s Hospital. 

Each player brought a guest who either was battling cancer, had battled cancer, or someone to represent someone lost to cancer. All the players and their guests were individually introduced at the beginning of the ceremony. Representatives of the Upstate Foundation, Danielle LaTour and Robin Grabowski, joined everyone for the ceremonies.

On the varsity team, Bridget Hickey raised $2,551, up from her total of $630 last year. Others who raised more than $100 included:
