Food Services

Due to changes in Child Nutrition’s federal and state waivers, Weedsport Central School District is unable to continue to offer free meals to all students.

Instead, families who wish to apply may fill out a 2023–2024 Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. Please fill out the application found on the right side of this page, and return to Bianca Sheffield, via email, by dropping it off at one of the school’s offices, or by US Postal service:

Bianca Sheffield, Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School, 2821 East Brutus Street, Weedsport, NY, 13166

Families who are Directly Certified through SNAP or certain forms of Medicaid will automatically be approved for free meals (without filling out an income application). A letter will be sent home if your family qualifies through Direct Certification.

MEAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

Most children with disabilities have no special dietary needs. They are able to participate in the Child Nutrition Programs the same as all other children in the school. In some instances, however, children with disabilities may experience difficulty when chewing and swallowing, which would require that the physical characteristics of their foods be changed. Some children with severe disabilities may need special foods or a therapeutic diet.

Federal regulations require schools and institutions to serve meals at no extra charge to those children whose disability restricts their diet in such a way that they cannot fully participate in the food service program without some modification to the foods offered or the scheduled menu. If you believe your child needs substitutions because of a disability, please get in touch with us for further information. You must request the special meals from the school and provide the school with medical certification from a medical doctor. This medical certification must contain the following:

  1. Verification that the special meals are needed due to the student’s disability;
  2. Recommendations/prescription for alternate foods and forms of foods needed to meet the student’s special dietary needs.

If you have questions regarding the need for meal modification, contact Ann DeFazio, Director of Special Programs, at (315) 834-6752.

MEAL SERVICES FOR HOMELESS STUDENTS

Students in temporary housing situations are eligible for free school meals. Homeless students and their families do not need to complete a free meal application. Instead, the school district’s McKinney-Vento Liaison can give the students’ names to the food service director.

  • Are you living in a temporary location?
  • Are you sharing the housing of another person because you lost your housing, or because of economic hardship, or for another similar reason?
  • Are you sleeping in a car, a park, bus/train station, or campsite?
  • Are you staying in a motel, a hotel, a shelter, or another temporary location?

If you answer “Yes” to any of the questions above, please talk with your school district/s McKinney-Vento Liaison. You might not have to fill out the free meal application.

Your liaisons are Sarah Mercier, (315) 834-6685, and Jessica Bradtke, (315) 834-6652. They can be contacted to find out whether you or your children are eligible to get free meals without an application.

If you need contact information for a liaison in a different school district, or if you would like more information about the rights of a student in temporary housing, please visit www.teachs.org.
