The Mission of the Weedsport Central School Department of Foreign Languages

In our increasingly cross-cultural and global society, the Department of Foreign Languages in the Weedsport School District provides students with the opportunity to heighten their social awareness of cultural differences that exist around us and exposes students to distinctive perspectives that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures. Becoming proficient in a foreign language enhances memory, self-esteem and will open doors to the appreciation of music, art and literature, fashion, cuisine, and travel.

Our goal is to broaden our students' educational experience by challenging them to think critically and to make connections and comparisons between their native language and culture and that of their second language. Knowledge of foreign languages is vital to remain competitive in international business, technology, and the sciences; and increases employment opportunities in today's job market. By the end of a student's foreign language sequence, s/he will be prepared to meet the demand for competence in a second language in a world that is becoming increasingly interdependent.
