ENTRANCE EXAM SCORE REPORTING

CHANGE IN COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM SCORE
                                REPORTING FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Starting with the 2009-2010 school year, there will be a significant change in the way college entrance exam scores are reported to colleges for our high school seniors. For many years, college entrance exam scores (SAT and ACT) were included on student transcripts, if their scores were reported directly to our high school. Many colleges would accept exam scores reported on high school transcripts. Any scores that were reported to us were included on the transcript. These scores will no longer be reported on transcripts. This change is due, in large part, to a reporting change initiated by the College Board for SAT scores.

The College Board is now allowing students to pick and choose specific test date scores to be sent to colleges. Because of this practice, we will no longer be including SAT I, SAT II or ACT scores on transcripts. This change is being made to avoid the risk of a score(s) being sent to a college that a student did not want sent. Students will need to request that the College Board (SAT) and/or American College Testing Program (ACT) send their scores directly to the college(s) of their choice. ACT has not yet made this change, although we anticipate it may be coming soon. To follow a uniform practice, we are excluding both exam scores from our transcripts.

In addition to the College Board's new score reporting policy, more and more colleges are switching to SAT and ACT optional score reporting. This also has contributed to our change in reporting scores on student transcripts. If colleges are not requiring the scores, and an uncharacteristically low score appears on a transcript, this could influence admission decisions.

We will reevaluate this new practice at the end of this school year.
