The winter junior varsity and varsity teams have been practicing and preparing for contests this month since early November.There is much anticipation and excitement surrounding our athletic teams this winter.
The Weedsport Swimming and Diving team begins this season with new coach, Mr. Ben Nabewaniec.The team will begin its annual endeavor of trying to compete against larger schools that they must face during the season.This season Coach Nabewaniec will rely on returning swimmers Logan Thompson, Nathan Earl, Samantha Black, and Adam Rude.It should be an exciting year in the pool!
The Weedsport Boys’ Basketball team, coached by Matt Lipiska, looks forward to competing for a division title, an appearance at the Cayuga Community College Holiday tournament, and also a special Coaches vs. Cancer game with rival Port Byron later in the season. Weedsport will look to defend their title at the CCC tournament over the Christmas vacation. This year’s team will be led by seniors Justin Rose, PJ Piascik, Abe Jordan, and Jesse Schooley.
The Weedsport Volleyball team, coached by recent Hall of Fame inductee Sandy Donahue, is looking to get back to its winning ways of the past. This year’s team will have a mix of youth and experience.Leading the way for the team will be Lauryn Bates, Samantha Beckwith, Shelby Cole, and Julia Myers.The team opens its first league contest with Cato-Meridian on December 3rd.
The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team is again coached by Chris Vargason.The team will be led by 1,000 point scorer Kaitlin Hammersley. The team will look to return to sectional play again this year. Jordan Roe and Brittany LaForce will look to join Kaitlin in leading the Lady Warriors back to the sectionals. The team opens its first home game on December 9th against Central Tech.
